Exhibition Description
“Mary Filer is remembered as a talented artist and master of several mediums, including drawing, painting, glass sculpture, and mural work.”
By frequently using watercolor and ending the work with a touch of easy ink, Mary Filer quickly made a signature style of her own. The color looks “dirty” itself, but here it creates a wonderful, just in point imagery. From the mountains to the wooden house, distanced by a river, rounded by the green woods, a peaceful scene is created to reflect a strong yearning for nature.
Why This Piece Was Chosen
I was first attracted by a series of works that is in this “watercolor with ink finish” style. Most of they are figure painting and landscape painting. Soon this specific work caught my attention.
I like the color she used in this work a lot. Though it is dark and dirty, but it creates a harmony there. Compares to other works of landscape, this one stands out with the layers she created, which makes the overall look very full.
