Spring God features the portrait of a bold androgenetic feature on a dark background. This piece appears not to be based on a mythological God but rather the artist’s depiction of their own Spring God. The piece is largely created with black and warm browns. The main appearance of colour is in the God’s crown of greenery and floral buds. One interesting note about Spring God is that Filer listed a price of $12 on the back of this creation.
Why This Piece Was Chosen
I chose this piece because of how the Artist captured their idea of a Spring God. Spring is a time of change and new beginnings. That translates to the Spring God Filer has created. They appear firm but forgiving in their expression, and as if they will be an overseer of the great change spring brings. These facial features are distinct. I admire the God’s chiseled chin, bold lips, and mostly, his wide nose. I appreciate Filer’s technique in this piece. The strokes she made create a uniqueness and a uniform texture. I respect the colour of the piece, and think it supports the tone that the Artist was trying to achieve. The spirit Filer has created in this piece is unlike any other Spring God.
