Monsters, Madness, and Magic: A Ccoversation About Frankenstein, Horror and Witches

To celebrate Halloween in 2023, the Archer Library and Archives hosted the “Monsters, Madness, and Magic” panel discussion at the Administration-Humanities Building Pit. During this lively discussion, invited speakers expanded on the macabre world of Frankenstein, explained how the story fits into the larger horror genre, and delved into the thorny history of witchcraft and witch hunts. Panelists were: Dr. Noel Chevalier (English Associate Professor, Luther College), Dr. Marcel DeCoste (English Professor, University of Regina), and Dr. Yvonne Petry (History Professor & Academic Dean, Luther College.) The event was introduced by the Archer Library’s Corina van den Berg and moderated by Kate Cushon (Subject Librarian for English, Theatre and Business Administration.) The winners of the Archer Library’s 2-sentence Horror Story contest were also announced at the event, and this year’s lucky students were: Miranda Peace, Vanshika, and Ekin Buyukakten.

“The library is my second hiding spot and safe place to come to study and get information.”
