On March 6th, 2024, The Dr. John Archer Library & Archives hosted a free public symposium in conjunction with the recent donation of the photography book Antarctica (Nahanni Productions Inc., 2002.)
The Tales from the End of the Earth symposium opened with a Zoom presentation of the book by its photographers and publishers, Pat and Rosemarie Keough, streamed live from their home in Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. They shared their experiences while visiting Antarctica numerous times over a two-year period in order to produce the stunning photographs found in the book. Discussion also included the Keoughs’ Antarctica experiences over a span of 20 years, why they chose to travel there, and the alarming things currently happening on the continent as a result of climate change.
The symposium featured other presentations about the polar regions of Antarctica and the Arctic by University of Regina faculty members Lindsey French, Dr. Risa Horowitz, Dr. Samantha Lawler & Dr. Karla McManus.
