Welcome
The origins of the University of Regina lie with Regina College, a residential high school
established by the Methodist Church in 1911. Twenty-six students enrolled that first year
for classes at the old Victoria Hospital building on Hamilton Street. The College quickly
grew and weathered the crises of the First World War and the Great Depression becoming an
affiliated college of the University of Saskatchewan in 1925 and, in 1934, a part of that
University. The vision for an institution of higher education in southern Saskatchewan
remained strong and despite challenges Regina College evolved into the second campus of
the University of Saskatchewan and became a university in its own right in 1974.
This website presents a detailed timeline of that evolution from the early 20th century to 1959. The timeline is augmented with digital copies of fascinating documents representative of that history. This includes selections from textual records such as general calendars, yearbooks, student newspapers and other publications. Also included are photographs and a set of interactive maps.
